The “I AM” has sent me to you.
Reading: Exodus 3:13-14.
“Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when
I come to the children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has
sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what shall I
say to them?”
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO
I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has
sent me to you.'”
In my working life there were times when I was sent by the company out
of my local area of work, but I could only go when I had the authority of the
sender to cover the job I had to do.
Here in this text, Moses was called to address the ruler of Egypt, so
like everyone else, he wanted to know the name of the one sending him, or on whose
authority was he sent.
God used the name “I AM” to
teach Moses about His unchanging nature. A right view of God is important in
serving the Lord with power and purpose. Today I want to look at God’s nature
in those words “I am.”
1ST POINT: The great “I AM” teaches us about GOD’S SELF-EXISTENCE.
1ST POINT: The great “I AM” teaches us about GOD’S SELF-EXISTENCE.
“In the beginning, God” Genesis 1:1. Praise God for His
pre-existence before time, from His language here there is no past, or future, but
only the now since the “I AM” is God.
No one created God, so He is not beholding to anyone else.
God is above all.
God is before all things.
God is greater than all things.
He is greater than all history.
He is greater than any present circumstances.
He is greater than any future powers.
Because He has always been the eternally pre-existing God. We serve a
God who has no beginning or end.
2ND POINT: The great I AM
teaches us about GOD’S SUPPLY.
God is the source of every good and perfect gift. Moses doubted if He
had the ability to lead and govern the people of Israel, but the great “I AM” assured him of the availability
of all resources. We also share that promise, “He who spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all. Will
He not also with Him freely give us ALL THINGS” Romans 8:32.
As New Testament believers we count on the promise, “My God will supply all your need according to His riches in glory by
Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19. We can be assured that whatever material,
mental, emotional, financial, academic, or physical need we might have to serve
God, God is able to supply our need.
3RD POINT: The great I AM
teaches us about GOD’S COMFORT.
Just as God comforted Moses at a time of his greatest need, so God
comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we in turn can comfort others, what
we receive from God. “Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies
and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be
able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted by God” 2
Corinthians 1:3-4.
Trust
the Lord to comfort you when you are in times of need. For He has sent the
Comforter in the person of the Holy Spirit to be with us always. He comforts us
when we are discouraged, disappointed and despondent.
None can cheer the heart like Jesus, the joy of the Lord which is our
strength, comfort and answer giver. “You will
keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You,
because he trusts in You” Isaiah 26:3.
CONCLUSION:
