THE DIVINE USE OF NUMBERS IN THE SCRIPTURES.
Every careful reader of the Bible will notice the many uses of certain numbers in the Scriptures, for example the use of THREE, TWELVE, and SEVENTY. These numbers are found both in the Old and New Testaments.
NUMBER ONE. THE NUMBER OF “DIVINE UNITY.”
See Deuteronomy 6:4
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!”
The central principle of the revelation in the Bible is the unity of God. “Have we not all ONE Father? Has not ONE God created us” Malachi 2:10. ONE is the symbol of the unity of God, John 10:30 “I and My Father are one.”
This unity is made up of the mutual love and trust of three divine Persons; we will see this later in the Trinity. You can see this in God’s Creation, John 1:3 “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
And in the future plan of God’s will to bring us to unity in Christ Jesus, Ephesians 1:10 “That in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in ONE all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him.”
Christ has abolished the division between Jew and Gentile, making both ONE new man, Ephesians 2:14-15. “There will be ONE flock and ONE shepherd” John 10:16.
The Church now represents this final oneness of all things, and reflects the unity of God, being a fellowship of many, yet living in ONENESS under the rule of Christ Jesus its Head, Ephesians 1:20-24.
In Ephesians 4:4-6 we have a wonderful example of SEVEN unites, “ONE Body, ONE Spirit, ONE Hope, ONE Lord, ONE Faith, ONE Baptism, and ONE God.”
NUMBER TWO. THE NUMBER OF “UNION OR TESTIMONY.”
See Revelation 11:3
“And I will give power to my two witnesses.”
1. The union of marriage, when TWO “shall become of ONE flesh” Genesis 2:23.
2. The union of Christ and His Church, when TWO shall be one Ephesians 5:31-32 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the TWO shall become ONE flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”
3. The union of the TWO natures in Christ Jesus, Luke 1:35 “And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
4. The union of death and life in the Atonement of Christ, Leviticus 14:4-7; 16:5-22.
5. The union of the Disciples being called by TWO’S, Matthew 10:2-4.
6. The union of the Disciples going out in TWO by TWO, Mark 6:7 “And He called the TWELVE to Himself, and began to send them out TWO by TWO, and gave them power over unclean spirits.”
7. The union of the TWO tables of Testimonies,
8. The union of the TWO witnesses, Revelation 11:3 “And I will give power to my TWO witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”
NUMBER THREE. THE NUMBER OF “DIVINITY.”
See 1 John 5:7
“For there are THREE that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these THREE are ONE.”
THREE, is often called the “divine number” because it is often mentioned in connection with Holy Things. It speaks of the Trinity of God, of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. For God works among us in THREE ways, because He exists in THREE ways.
We know that there is God the Father, and that Christ came from the Father, and that His presence was the presence of God Himself, “For the Word was with God, and the Word is God” John 1:1. The Spirit that is with us now is the Spirit of Jesus, John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” Completing among men that Jesus has begun.

9. It speaks of the THREE days of resurrection of Jonah, Jonah 1:17 “Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish THREE days and THREE nights.”
10. It speaks of the THREE days of resurrection of Jesus, Matthew 12:38-40 “Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was THREE days and THREE nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be THREE days and THREE nights in the heart of the earth.”
11. It speaks of the THREE fold nature of the Eternal Christ, “Who was, who is, and who is to come” Revelation 1:8.

For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.”
NUMBER FOUR. THE NUMBER OF THE “WORLD.”
See Revelation 7:1
“After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree.”
