Michael Jackson dies!

The Steadfast Love of the Lord.

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him” Lamentations 3:22-24.

Most of you will have heard the sad news of the passing of two pop icons in one day yesterday: Thursday, 25th June 2009. This is my own tribute to them.
Michael Jackson the “prince of pop,” aged only 50.
Farrah Fawcett one of Charles angels, aged 62 died after a long battle with cancer.
How tragic that fame cannot shield us from a lonely existence and an unhappy end, sadly death comes to all men, and women.

Michael Jackson could have looked back on years of pop glory and superstar fame, when his dance moves dazzled the whole world. But then came the surgeries, the bizarre behaviour, the ugly allegations, the court cases.
Farrah Fawcett could look back on the glory years when young women around the world imitated her hairstyle and her “look.” I can remember as a younger man watching “Charlie's Angels.” For the story line of course!
But oh, how fleeting is life. And oh, how empty is fame. And oh, how pointless is earthly success when eternity stretches before all.

We have a new morning ahead of us. For every day presents us with a new opportunity to discover and experience more of God’s love. Even in the midst of terrible news and sorrow.
Jeremiah says “Great is Your faithfulness.” Here is the heart of the Book of Lamentations. The comforting, compassionate character of God dominates the wreckage of life. God remains “full of grace and truth” in every situation (see Exodus 34:6, 7; John 1:14).
When you wake up in the morning, God will always be there. Family and friends may disappoint; heroes (Michael Jackson) and heroines (Farrah Fawcett) are taken from us, or may fail to live up to expectations.

Nevertheless, God is ever faithful. The root meaning of faithfulness (Hebrew ˒emunah) is “certainty” and “dependability.” Faithfulness describes who God is (1 Corinthians 1:9). No matter what you do, God cannot be unfaithful because He cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13). He is steadfast and trustworthy. He keeps His promises (Hebrews 10:23).

God’s presence is assured, even if you are unaware of it (Matthew 28:20). His faithfulness is experienced in His protection (2 Thessalonians 3:3), mercy (Psalms 89:2), preservation (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24), love (Romans 8:35–39); it is revealed in all His promises (Joshua 23:14).
What a comfort and encouragement to experience His faithfulness today! For “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.”
