THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Text: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:1-11.

THE THREE GIFTS OF INSPIRATION.

1ST GROUP OF NINE: TONGUES, INTERPRETATION, AND PROPHECY.

1. THE GIFT OF: TONGUES. VERSE 10.
“To another, different kinds of tongues.”
“Languages of different races and sorts” 1 Corinthians 13:1.

After His resurrection, Jesus promised His disciples, “YOU shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon YOU; and YOU shall be witness to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” Acts 1:8.

This promise was fulfilled in Acts 2:1-4, on the Day of Pentecost.
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And THEY were all FILLED with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave THEM utterance.”

So, “speaking in tongues” is the evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit. It is also the starter gift of the Spirit, which leads us into the supernatural realm, for we are told to be “FILLED” with the Holy Spirit. The “gift of tongues” is to help us worship Jesus, we can say, “Praise Him, Glory to His Name, He is Lord,” yet, words often fail us, in true worship to Christ the Lord.

With the “gift of tongues” the Holy Spirit joins our spirit as we praise the Name of Jesus, and in tongues we praise Jesus in a heavenly language, to praise with the language of men and of angels.
For tongues are used in worship to God, it is our praise with the Spirit, that tells Jesus how much we love Him. For tongues are always directed towards God. The "gift of tongues" can be manifested at any time, in true worship to God. More so in private prayer and worship, as we praise the Lord, we are also edified in our worship.

Yet, we need to take note of the “gifts of tongues.”
1. On one hand, it is worship to God, in prayer, to edify the believer.
2. And on the other hand, it is given to the church, for the Lord to speak to us, in the “interpretation” of the “message in tongues,” in a public meeting, to edify the Body.
On this gifting, we must wait upon God.

So be FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. Seek the Lord for the “gift of tongues.”
